Description and research notes
Printer’s serial and prefix trial sheet bearing three bold red impressions reading 'ESTAMPA 3ª SÉRIE 000a'. Produced as an undated archival test without denomination, vignette, or design. Such prefix tests allowed press operators to calibrate numbering wheels and ink density before full production of Tesouro Nacional banknotes.
These tests were part of internal quality control during Brazil’s mid-century transition to mechanized numbering systems. Each prefix element carried specific meaning: 'Estampa' referred to the plate version, 'Série' to the batch, and the lowercase suffix to alignment spacing. Trials like this ensured accurate serial alignment and legibility—critical for security and accounting once live notes were printed.
Graded PCGS 64 Very Choice New, this example provides a rare look into the behind-the-scenes workflow of Brazilian banknote production. While visually minimal, such sheets are indispensable documentation of the practical precision required in government printing offices of the era.
