Description and research notes
Uncut vertical sheet of four 10 Centavos notes issued by the Ayuntamiento (Municipal Council) of Zitácuaro, Michoacán, during the Mexican Revolution, catalogued as M2952c. Each note is individually numbered in blue ink (Nos. 1124–1127) and printed in black on thin local stock typical of municipal emergency currency produced in 1914–1916.
The design features simple but elegant typography within a rectangular frame, bearing the inscription 'AYUNTAMIENTO DE LA H. ZITÁCUARO' and denominated '10 Céntavos. 10 ctvs.' at both top and bottom. These issues were locally authorized to resolve the acute small-change shortage that gripped regional economies during the Revolution.
Surviving uncut sheets from Zitácuaro are exceptionally rare—most were separated for circulation or lost in the chaotic wartime environment. This example preserves full serial alignment and original sheet format, offering a complete glimpse into the municipal printing and numbering practices of Michoacán’s revolutionary economy. A standout artifact from one of Mexico’s most elusive local issues.
