Description and research notes
Issued note dated 1998 continuing the 'Pirámide de San Andrés' 25 Colones design, printed by De La Rue for El Banco Central de Reserva. This second variety (Pick 149b) retains the same engraving as the 1997 issue but introduces updated official signatures and minor tint adjustments.
These mid-series notes were part of El Salvador’s last paper-money production cycle before the transition to the U.S. dollar in 2001. Known for crisp intaglio definition and consistent inking, the 1998 printing demonstrates the maturity of De La Rue’s plate maintenance process.
Graded PMG 66 EPQ Gem Uncirculated, this example represents top quality for the type and is an excellent pairing with the 1997 Pick 149a issue and its corresponding specimen 149as.
