Description and research notes

Specimen note of the 1999 25 Colones issue, catalogued as Pick 155s. Printed by De La Rue with diagonal red SPECIMEN overprint, perforation cancels, and control stamps.

This specimen represents the terminal proof stage of the 25 Colones before the introduction of the U.S. dollar in 2001. It retains all key security features—watermark, metallic thread, and color-shifting inks—while being clearly marked to prevent circulation. Distributed in small numbers to institutional archives and printer files.

Graded PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated, this example concludes the 1996–1999 De La Rue sequence, connecting the proof (Pick 149p) through issued and specimen forms (149a–155s).
