Description and research notes

First re-issue of Banco Oriental’s 10 Pesos = 1 Doblón de Oro Sellado dated 1 de Agosto de 1867 (but authorized under the 1871 charter). Printed by ABNC using the original 1867 plates. Two handwritten signatures in black ink mark the final phase of manual authorization before engraved facsimiles were introduced. Design identical to 1867 issue with Commerce and Arms vignettes and the orange ‘Doblón’ medallion.

Cataloged Pick S171a (Early Dual Signature). Serves as the first link between the 1867 S385a and later mechanized forms S171b and S172a, demonstrating continuity of Uruguay’s gold-backed note design across two eras.
