Paraguay 1907 - Banco de la República 5 Pesos with 1912 Dual-Side State and Treasury Revalidation Overprint (Pick Unlisted, Base Pick 156)

The reverse is equally important. Its brown ornamental design, large denomination medallions, and central national emblem were originally intended as a decorative and security framework. The 1912 Treasury overprint changes the function of that reverse. It turns the back of the note into an official fiscal record, carrying the authority of the Departamento de Hacienda, the Junta Fiscalizadora, the gold-value clause, and the May 1912 decree. The base design is a refined Waterlow & Sons production. The face combines black intaglio engraving, pale blue underprinting, large 5 Pesos denomination devices, a red serial number, and a dense guilloché security field. The Gothic-style Banco de la República lettering gives the note a strong institutional character, while the national emblem at center provides the ideal location for the later state overprint. Paraguay 1907 - Banco de la República 5 Pesos Issued Note (Pick 156)

The reverse, printed in brown, is built around a balanced arrangement of large denomination medallions and the national emblem of Paraguay. The central arms, wreath, and star are surrounded by fine guilloché work and ornamental rosettes, with the Waterlow & Sons imprint placed along the lower design. This reverse becomes especially important when compared with the dual-side revalidated variety, because the later Treasury overprint was placed directly over this brown security design. The reverse is printed in a restrained brown-red palette and built around two opposing classical female profile medallions within an elaborate symmetrical guilloche framework. Numerous repeated 10 and DIEZ denomination devices are incorporated into circular ornaments, corner values, borders, and interlocking security structures. The two profile vignettes face inward toward the center of the composition, producing a balanced bilateral design surrounded by exceptionally dense ornamental engraving. A broad unprinted margin remains at the right, corresponding with the retained counterfoil area of the specimen format.
