The obverse features the familiar portrait of Alexander Hamilton, framed by the classical small-size layout adopted in 1928. The reverse retains the traditional allegorical vignette representing Agriculture and Industry, engraved in layered intaglio characteristic of Bureau of Engraving and Printing craftsmanship. Bank of New Zealand — complete pre-Reserve specimen lineage (1870–1926)

Historical frame. Trading banks (BNZ among them) issued notes under New Zealand statute throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. The Reserve Bank of New Zealand Act, 1933 (operations 1934) ended private note issue and unified design and security under a single authority. This lineage captures the last decades before that shift—when London engraving and colonial banking needs met on New Zealand paper.

On 17 September 1943, in the Fleming–Ramleh district of Alexandria, Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch Cyril IX Moghabghab issued a letter that blends religion, politics, influence, and wartime diplomacy. What appears at first glance to be a pastoral response to a trusted physician is, in content, a coordinated political intervention executed from inside the Patriarchal chancery at the end of the Second World War.
