Poland 1946 - 1 Zloty Narodowy Bank Polski Specimen (Pick 123s)

Designed by Ryszard Kleczewski and printed by the Polish Security Printing Works in Łódź, the specimen preserves the production standard adopted for the 1946 issue while recording the security markings applied specifically to official specimen material. The principal payment text begins with "Gentlemen" and explains the operating mechanism of the Circular Note. The instrument was to be presented by a holder whose signature corresponded with the firm's accompanying Letter of Indication, which was to be produced together with the note. The paying correspondent was requested to pay the value of TWENTY POUNDS at the current rate of exchange against proper endorsement. This language records the essential security structure of the Thomas Cook Circular Note system: portable value supported by a separate identification document, signature comparison, controlled presentation, and redemption through designated banking correspondents. The main engraved design is framed by dense geometric work and finely developed guilloche structures characteristic of Bradbury Wilkinson's nineteenth-century security printing. A large portrait of Christopher Columbus appears at the left of the principal note, balanced by a standing child vignette at the right. Repeated numerical 10 devices, ornamental value cartouches, fine-line backgrounds, layered color printing, and carefully structured typography create a complex security composition built around denomination recognition, institutional authority, and anti-alteration engraving.
