Description and research notes
Issued 10 Dollars note from the East Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB), dated 2019 and printed on polymer substrate by De La Rue.
This variety was the first polymer $10 of the ECCB and initially appeared as an unlisted entry in the Standard Catalog of World Paper Money before being formally classified as Pick 56a. It carries updated security features including a clear polymer window with the ECCB logo, raised tactile marks, microtext, and color-shifting elements embedded in the vertical design format.
The face presents Queen Elizabeth II in state robes, the ECCB seal, and the denomination rendered vertically for consistency with the new polymer series. The reverse features a portrait of Sir Arthur Lewis, Saint Lucian economist and Nobel laureate, reinforcing the region’s intellectual heritage.
Graded PMG 67 EPQ Superb Gem Uncirculated, this example marks the launch of the ECCB’s polymer transition initiative aimed at enhancing durability, security, and cost-efficiency across all member territories. It represents the first generation of vertical polymer East Caribbean dollars.
