Description and research notes
De La Rue specimen of the Provincial Bank of Ireland £1, dated 1 January 1968. Classical head within a guilloche medallion at center, with the denomination framed by large sterling symbols. SPECIMEN diagonal overprint and De La Rue control ovals confirm its archival status, accompanied by a cancellation punch and specimen serial panel.
The PR99 variety represents the late pre‑decimal layout used by the Provincial Bank prior to brand transitions in the 1970s. Its restrained olive‑green palette and textbook De La Rue steel‑engraved style are characteristic of Northern Irish paper money of the period.
PMG 58 EPQ Choice About Uncirculated notes original paper with minimal handling. A clean specimen linking the older provincial title to later consolidated Irish banking.
