Paraguay 1907 - Banco de la República 100 Pesos Issued Note (Pick 159)

The note is historically important because it represents the starting point of the entire 1907 to 1912 Paraguayan revalidation story. The later overprinted issues cannot be fully understood without this base note. The 1912 state-overprint issue, cataloged as Pick 134, was created directly on this Pick 159 design, while the still rarer dual-side state and treasury revalidation specimen shows an additional layer of fiscal control applied to the same original type. Exceptional 1907 Banco de la República 100 Pesos, printed by Waterlow & Sons, London, and later revalidated by the Paraguayan state through the bold oval overprint “Emisión del Estado – Ley de 11 de Enero de 1912.” This is the recognized catalogued 1912 state-overprint issue, Pick 134, created on the original 1907 Banco de la República 100 Pesos base type, Pick 159. Unlike the rarer dual-side treasury revalidation variety, this example carries the official state emission overprint on the face only, making it the standard and historically definitive form of the 1912 emergency reissue.

Issued 1907 Banco de la República 5 Pesos note, cataloged as Pick 156 and printed by Waterlow & Sons, London. This is the original, non-overprinted base type from which the later 1912 5 Pesos emergency state-overprint issue was created. In this untouched issued form, without the later “Emisión del Estado” oval stamp and without the additional reverse Treasury validation seen on the dual-side fiscalized variety, the note preserves the full Waterlow & Sons design as Paraguay originally released it under the monetary framework of 1907.
