Egypt 1911 - The Odeon Hall, Cairo Gold Watch Repair Invoice

The Odeon Hall belonged to a wave of cosmopolitan commercial houses operating in Cairo in the years before World War I, many owned or managed by Armenian, Greek, Syrian, and European families. These firms introduced modern retail practices and new technologies-gramophones, recorded music, optical goods, imported machines-while still offering traditional services like watch and clock repair. Their hybrid business model created a commercial culture that blended Middle Eastern craftsmanship with fast-growing European industrial products.

Egypt 1927 - Chahine & Sbath Cairo Commercial Draft Endorsed by Banque d’Orient

The face of the draft is completed in multiple inks. The header indicates a 250-piastre amount (B.P. 250) and is written to the order of Messieurs Chahine & Sbath with the recipient’s name, Ahmed El Serafi, filled in by hand in Arabic next to his address at Rue Madabegh, Immeuble Coronel. Large sweeping Arabic entries in black and blue fountain-pen ink extend across the center panel, including commercial notations, acceptance wording, and confirmation of goods received. A diagonal pink annotation and date appear at the top edge.

Original 1935 commercial letterhead issued by Palestine and Egypt Lloyd Ltd., one of the most important multinational forwarding, clearing, and passenger-transport agencies operating in the Eastern Mediterranean during the interwar period. The sheet is printed on period cream office stock and carries a trilingual English–French–Arabic masthead, dominated by the bold PEL monogram at upper left. The left margin lists every operational branch of the company-Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Jaffa, Haifa, Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said, Damascus, Aleppo, Baghdad, and Teheran-providing an unusually comprehensive snapshot of a major Levantine–Egyptian commercial network at a moment when regional transport corridors were undergoing rapid modernization.
