Greenland 1856 - 6 Skilling R.M. Danish Administration Colonial Remainder (Pick A33r)

The note is printed in two colors: blue Danish script within a red ornamental frame featuring crowned royal monograms and classical floral engravings. The text translates to: 'This note is valid for six skilling Rigsmoent at the trading posts in Greenland. Copenhagen, 1856.' The 6 Skilling denomination represented a minor accounting unit used in Greenland’s trade network, functioning as an internal voucher for furs, fish, and imported goods.

Printed from a hard steel plate by William Brown of London, with local agency handled by Ewan Christian in Cape Town, the note exemplifies the highest standards of mid nineteenth-century private banknote engraving. Steel-plate production required significant capital investment and technical skill, underscoring the bank’s intention to project stability, credibility, and permanence despite its ultimately fragile financial position.

Poland 1940 - 500 Zlotych Series B Unfinished Print Fragment (Pick 98)

The obverse is dominated by the green underprint, with its guilloche work, background ornament and central 500 denomination device already established. The principal dark printed design was never applied, leaving absent the portrait, surrounding frames, inscriptions, date, signatures and other elements that define the completed obverse. Despite this unfinished state, the red Series B serial number B 2048322 had already been applied.
