Mauritius 1940 - Government of Mauritius 1 Rupee Uncut Pair Remainder (Pick 26r1)

Both impressions share an elaborate green and rose design dominated by a rectangular green ornamental framework. GOVERNMENT OF MAURITIUS is prominently displayed in two lines at the upper centre, while large Re.1 denomination counters occupy all four corners. Rose security tinting extends through the central field and into portions of the surrounding ornament, creating a layered contrast with the darker green key printing. Fine guilloché, repeating geometric borders, scrollwork, line engraving and densely worked ornamental panels cover almost the entire printed surface. Read more →

Poland 1919 - Bank Polski 100 Zlotych Issued Note S.B. 5482263 (Pick 57)

The notes were printed in London by Waterlow & Sons Limited and held in reserve while the Polish marka remained the circulating currency. This 1919-dated issue entered circulation on 28 April 1924, when the new zloty was introduced and Bank Polski began operations as the central issuing institution. The delayed release connects the note directly with both the restoration of Polish independence and the stabilization of the national currency after the marka hyperinflation. Read more →

Archival watermarked paper prepared by Thomas De La Rue and Company Limited in London for the unissued Bank Polski 20 Zlotych banknote dated 2 January 1928. This piece preserves the original production substrate for the note: the security paper with multitone portrait watermark, before banknote printing. It is not a printed banknote, but a surviving archival component from one of the most important unrealized Polish banknote projects of the interwar period. Read more →

The surviving prefix distribution suggests that the difference was driven by production volume rather than a separate numbering policy. The 200 Zlotych London run ended at AR, the 100 Zlotych at BQ, the 20 Zlotych at BF, and the 10 Zlotych progressed as far as BZ before stopping, while only the 50 Zlotych continued into the C range, reaching CJ before London production concluded. Warsaw printing then resumed with D prefixes for every denomination. Although no surviving production records are presently known to explain the allocation, the prefix sequence is consistent with the 50 Zlotych requiring the largest London print run.
