At the center of the design appears the Maenad figure, derived from a classical bronze sculpture discovered at the archaeological site of Heraclea Lyncestis. The dancer’s dynamic posture symbolizes movement and vitality and became the defining icon of the denomination. The dominant design element of the denomination is the Maenad figure, derived from an ancient bronze sculpture discovered in the archaeological complex of Heraclea Lyncestis. The sculpture depicts a dancer in motion and has become one of the most recognizable symbols of classical Macedonian art. In the banknote design the figure functions both as a cultural emblem and as a structural anchor for the engraving, occupying the central field in a large intaglio vignette whose dynamic posture creates visual movement across the note’s horizontal layout. The note displays the full set of Thomas De La Rue & Company specimen control devices. A bold red diagonal SPECIMEN overprint crosses the face of the note, accompanied by the oval printer control stamp reading “DE LA RUE & CO LTD / NO VALUE.” Two punch cancellations are applied in the signature area to prevent circulation while leaving the printed design clearly visible for inspection. These markings identify the note as a controlled reference example rather than a circulating instrument.
