Argentina 1869 - Banco Domingo Garbino, 5 Pesos Fuertes Issued Note with Red Overprint (Pick S1803)

Issued 5 Pesos Fuertes note of Banco Domingo Garbino, produced from an earlier 1869 Banco Oxandaburu y Garbino note printed by the American Bank Note Company (Compania Americana de Billetes de Banco Nueva York) and later placed into circulation under Banco Domingo Garbino through the large diagonal red overprint "BANCO DOMINGO GARBINO." The overprint identifies the provisional reuse of the underlying Oxandaburu y Garbino stock under the successor banking identity. Pick S1803 records this issued overprint form of the 5 Pesos Fuertes denomination.

The most immediately distinctive feature is the issuer name printed across the face: OXANDABURU Y GARVINO. Historical records identify the partner as Domingo Luis Garbino, while the printed 1867 issue uses GARVINO with a V. This spelling is a defining feature of the 1867 partnership issue and is preserved again on the related 20 Pesos Bolivianos remainder of the same year. The bank's 1869 series appears under the corrected GARBINO form, preserving a clear spelling progression between the two issues.

Cataloged Pick S1566 / Bauman CHA-01a, this is the highest recorded serial among known examples and the only fully preserved specimen traced to the market. It complements the earlier 05056 fragment, confirming press continuity and range across the print run-likely no more than 22,000 sheets, based on the RPN Subasta 22315 reference (Serial 22315). PMG census shows only two graded survivors worldwide, neither matching these serials. Together this pair constitute the definitive record set for Pick S1566, providing the first complete visual documentation of El Banco del Chaco’s 1 Peso Oro issue in private hands.
