Poland 1928 - Bank Polski 20 Zlotych Archival Watermarked Paper (Miłczak 67)

The planned 20 Zlotych design was significant for Polish banknote history because steel engraving, or staloryt, was used for the first time in Polish banknote production. The portrait of Marynia Połaniecka, after the graphic work of Piotr Stachiewicz, was executed as the central artistic feature of the note. On this sheet, that portrait survives in watermark form, translated into the paper itself as a multitone security image positioned in the unprinted field of the planned banknote. Read more →

Poland 1926 - Bank Polski 10 Zlotych Archival Watermarked Paper (Miłczak 64)

This piece represents the base security paper manufactured for the early interwar 10 Zł notes before the final design was printed. It bears the undated watermark reading 'Bolesław Chrobry 10 ZŁ' (Milczak type), positioned diagonally across the sheet and visible when held to light. The watermark references Bolesław Chrobry, Poland’s first crowned king, whose image symbolized strength and continuity in the newly reborn Republic.

Poland 1919 Bank Polski 100 Zlotych issued note, series S.B. and serial 5482263, featuring Tadeusz Kosciuszko and printed by Waterlow and Sons Limited in London.

The notes were printed in London by Waterlow & Sons Limited and held in reserve while the Polish marka remained the circulating currency. This 1919-dated issue entered circulation on 28 April 1924, when the new zloty was introduced and Bank Polski began operations as the central issuing institution. The delayed release connects the note directly with both the restoration of Polish independence and the stabilization of the national currency after the marka hyperinflation.
