Egypt 1914–1915 - Egyptian Red Crescent Society (Khedivial Era Membership Receipts, Two-Document Set)

Pair of original Egyptian Red Crescent Society membership receipts from 1914 and 1915, both issued on cream wove paper and printed with the early Khedivial-era layout. Each sheet carries the large red Crescent emblem at top center, rendered in thick oil-based ink with slight unevenness at the edges typical of hand-inked early Red Crescent forms. Beneath the emblem appears the full institutional title in classical Arabic script, followed by the patronage line noting the protection of the Khedivial household and the presidency of His Highness Prince Mohamed Ali. The text block is printed in fine black letterpress with the characteristic spacing and font weight used by the Society’s pre-war printing office. Read more →

The typed body of the letter states that two copies of the quarterly receipts for the company's vessel operating on the Bahr Youssef Canal (covering July through September 1912) were submitted to His Excellency the Minister of Public Works. The Bahr Youssef Canal was a critical component of Egypt’s irrigation network, linking the Nile to the Fayoum depression and supporting both agricultural development and inland waterborne commerce. Companies like C.B.O. provided scheduled and contract navigation on this canal, handling passenger transfers, postal consignments, and freight movements essential to rural economic life.

Original 1935 commercial letterhead issued by Palestine and Egypt Lloyd Ltd., one of the most important multinational forwarding, clearing, and passenger-transport agencies operating in the Eastern Mediterranean during the interwar period. The sheet is printed on period cream office stock and carries a trilingual English–French–Arabic masthead, dominated by the bold PEL monogram at upper left. The left margin lists every operational branch of the company-Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Jaffa, Haifa, Cairo, Alexandria, Port Said, Damascus, Aleppo, Baghdad, and Teheran-providing an unusually comprehensive snapshot of a major Levantine–Egyptian commercial network at a moment when regional transport corridors were undergoing rapid modernization.

This section represents the first administrative layer: a local civil authority certifying the original act before it was forwarded to the foreign ministry.
