Issued 1 Peso Fuerte note of Banco Domingo Garbino, produced from an earlier 1869 Banco Oxandaburu y Garbino note printed by the American Bank Note Company (Compania Americana de Billetes de Banco Nueva York) and later placed into circulation under Banco Domingo Garbino through the large vertical red overprint "BANCO DOMINGO GARBINO." The overprint identifies the provisional reuse of the underlying Oxandaburu y Garbino stock under the successor banking identity. Paraguay 1907 - Banco de la República 5 Pesos with 1912 State Overprint (Pick 127, Base Pick 156)

This example is certified PMG 64 Choice Uncirculated. That level of preservation is significant for a provisional overprint issue, because such notes were created for emergency use rather than archival retention. Most surviving examples of Paraguay’s 1912 overprint currency show evidence of circulation, handling, or storage wear. A high-grade certified survivor preserves not only the original Waterlow paper and printing, but also the sharpness and placement of the state overprint itself. Read more →

Paraguay 1907 - Banco de la República 100 Pesos Issued Note (Pick 159)

Issued 1907 Banco de la República 100 Pesos note, cataloged as Pick 159 and printed by Waterlow & Sons, London. This is the original, non-overprinted base type from which the later 1912 emergency state issues were created. In its pure issued form, without the later “Emisión del Estado” overprint or the additional Treasury fiscal validation seen on rarer revalidated examples, the note preserves the full Waterlow design as it was intended before Paraguay’s monetary emergency transformed surviving stocks into provisional state currency.
