United States Series of 1934 5 Dollars Federal Reserve Note from the Cleveland District, Friedberg 1956-Dm DGS Mule, DA block, graded PMG 35 EPQ Choice Very Fine, showing portrait of Abraham Lincoln and black Federal Reserve seal.

United States 1934 - 5 Dollars Federal Reserve Note, Cleveland District, DGS Mule (DA Block), Friedberg 1956-Dm, PMG 35 EPQ Choice Very Fine

The designation 'DGS Mule' refers to the combination of a 1934 face plate paired with a back design originally intended for a different signature configuration. Mule notes were not intentionally created as collectible varieties; rather, they resulted from the practical realities of plate usage and inventory management at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. As plate revisions and signature changes occurred, remaining stocks of engraved backs were sometimes matched with updated faces, producing distinctive crossover varieties now carefully cataloged by Friedberg. United States 1934A - 10 Dollars North Africa Silver Certificate (Friedberg 2309), PCGS 35 Very Fine

The Series 1934A 10 Dollars North Africa Silver Certificate, cataloged as Friedberg 2309, belongs to the distinctive emergency issues produced during the Second World War. Commonly known as the 'North Africa' notes, these certificates were printed with a yellow Treasury seal rather than the standard blue seal of Silver Certificates. The color modification was deliberate - a wartime security measure designed so that, if large quantities were captured by enemy forces, they could be immediately declared invalid. Read more →

The prominent gold Treasury seal and matching orange-gold serial numbers visually distinguished these notes from other circulating types, reinforcing their explicit connection to gold reserves held by the government.
