This note is a true specimen, not intended for circulation, and was produced as part of Bradbury, Wilkinson’s export engraving program for colonial banks. The design reflects late Victorian security printing conventions: a balanced bilateral layout with allegorical female vignettes, dense blue underprinting, and wide margins characteristic of British-engraved export notes. At left, a young woman holding a lamb symbolizes prosperity and trust; at right, a classical female figure represents authority and stability. Together these figures formed a visual reassurance to depositors and merchants in Sydney and other colonial financial centers.

The central vignette features an allegorical figure of Commerce, holding a caduceus and globe, framed by intricate lathe-work and industrial motifs representing trade, manufacturing, and the expansion of colonial wealth. The vertical inscriptions in both Chinese and English remain one of the most unusual design choices of any 19th-century Australian note. The Chinese inscription reads '新金山金媽士銀行', literally identifying the institution as the 'New Goldfields' or 'New Gold Mountain Commercial Bank', with '金媽士' functioning as a Cantonese phonetic rendering of 'commercial'. The opening characters '新金山', New Gold Mountain, were a Chinese name associated with Victoria and Australia during the gold-rush era, distinguishing the Australian goldfields from the earlier 'Gold Mountain' of California.

Approved design proof for the 10 Dollars traveller's cheque prepared by Bradbury Wilkinson and Company, London, for The Commercial Banking Company of Sydney Limited. Dated 15 June 1965 and annotated "As Submitted - Approved," this proof represents the accepted design direction for the bank's decimal-era traveller's cheque programme. Its light green colour, carefully balanced security background, centred Australia map vignette, and restrained corporate typography show the refined form reached during the June 1965 approval stage.
