This Series 1995 ten-dollar Federal Reserve Note from the Minneapolis District (designation I) illustrates how a small mechanical flaw can transform a routine print into a collectible printing anomaly. Cataloged as Friedberg 2032-I, it bears serial I36180363A and the printed signatures of Treasury officials Mary Ellen Withrow and Robert E. Rubin. The note was produced at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing’s Washington facility, identified by the 'FW' plate mark.

Radar notes are a special subset of fancy serial numbers, where the eight-digit serial reads identically when reversed. They are generated purely by statistical chance during numbering and were never intentionally produced by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing. Given the immense volume of bills printed, the odds of any single note being a true radar are only 1 in 10,000 - and examples preserved in Choice Uncirculated or better condition are far scarcer still.

United States 1935D - 1 Dollar Silver Certificate Butterfly Fold Error (Friedberg 1613W, IF Block)

Butterfly fold errors arise during the high-speed sheet-fed intaglio printing stage. The damp paper, traveling at great speed through the press, can curl or misfeed slightly, allowing one corner to tuck under itself before impression. When the pressure rollers apply ink to the folded sheet, the trapped portion receives a partial print. Once flattened, the misaligned section stands out vividly against the otherwise precise engraving. These notes were typically caught and destroyed during BEP inspection, making any fully released example a significant rarity.
