Mauritius 1940 - Government of Mauritius 1 Rupee Uncut Pair Remainder (Pick 26r1)

This uncut vertical pair of Government of Mauritius 1 Rupee remainder notes is printed on ND (1940) paper and cataloged as Pick 26r1, the remainder form of the Pick 26 issue. Preserved as two complete connected impressions, the piece retains their original vertical sheet relationship, the unprinted gutter between the notes, substantial outer margins, and a particularly broad blank sheet margin above the upper impression. By the early 1920s, Thomas Cook and Son had established one of the most extensive private financial networks in the world. Travellers Cheques had evolved into a standardized, globally accepted instrument that allowed holders to obtain funds securely across the British Isles, Europe, and overseas destinations through Cook's offices and affiliated banks. The 5 Pounds denomination functioned as a core unit within this system, balancing portability with sufficient purchasing power for extended travel.

Great Britain c. 1900 Thomas Cook and Son 20 Pounds Circular Note, serial No. 1163727 S, with blue and green security printing, Circular Note for Twenty Pounds title, £20 denomination, Letter of Indication payment wording, twelve-month validity notice, multiple punch cancellations, clipped lower-right corner, and blank reverse.

The face is headed by a large THOMAS COOK & SON title extending across the upper central field. Beneath it appears the serial number No. 1163727 S at the left, the place of issue London in script at center, and a partially preprinted date field beginning with 19 at the right. The remaining date was intended to be completed when the instrument entered use, so the printed 19 does not establish the precise year of production. Immediately below, the principal title reads CIRCULAR NOTE FOR TWENTY POUNDS, with a large script £20 denomination positioned prominently at the right.
