The obverse is dominated by the green underprint, with its guilloche work, background ornament and central 500 denomination device already established. The principal dark printed design was never applied, leaving absent the portrait, surrounding frames, inscriptions, date, signatures and other elements that define the completed obverse. Several physical features identify this sheet as the accepted approval-stage record. The round control punch appears at the left, directly over the countersignature and facsimile-signature area. A fine red approval line runs along the lower margin and records the approval wording and 15 June 1965 submission date. The small "B1" notation appears in the upper right corner, almost certainly functioning as an internal Bradbury Wilkinson and Company plate, layout, or colour-stage reference.
