Description and research notes

Face-side photographic proof of the twenty francs issue of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, dated 24 November 1965, representing the finalized layout stage of the design prior to full production. Printed in monochrome and mounted on archival cardstock, this example preserves the obverse composition at the point where structural design decisions had been completed.

The note carries serial number A000000 in dual placement, consistent with internal photographic proof formatting. The portrait of Grand Duke Jean is rendered in its final proportion and position, matching the geometry later adopted for the issued note. The earlier scaling issues observed in August proofs have been fully resolved, resulting in a balanced relationship between portrait, watermark field, typography, and ornamental framework.

Typography and denomination structure are fully stabilized, with "VINGT FRANCS" integrated harmoniously within the surrounding guilloche architecture. The spatial organization reflects a completed design system, optimized for both visual clarity and mechanical processing requirements.

The signature area is present but displays a single signature configuration, differing from the dual-signature arrangement of the issued note. This variation does not indicate an earlier design stage, but rather reflects that administrative elements were still being finalized after the completion of the core layout. The composition itself is fully resolved.

A handwritten production date "24.11.65" appears in the lower margin, linking this proof directly to the corresponding back photographic proof from the same review session. Together, these pieces document the design at the point of final approval prior to transition into full production.

This proof represents the culmination of the design evolution documented by the July and August photographic proofs. The earlier conceptual and transitional stages have been fully resolved, resulting in the precise, mechanically structured layout characteristic of the issued series.

Within the broader Luxembourg collection, this piece stands as the definitive obverse reference for the 1965–1970 development sequence, capturing the completed design immediately before final administrative adjustments and issuance.

The note is preserved in Choice New condition, mounted on original cardstock, retaining strong photographic clarity and full integrity of the finalized layout.
