Description and research notes

Face-side photographic proof of the ten francs note of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, dated July 3, 1966 as indicated on the grading holder, representing the finalized obverse layout prior to production. Printed in monochrome and mounted on archival cardstock, this example preserves the design at the stage where all structural and compositional decisions had been completed.

The note carries serial number A000000 in dual placement, consistent with internal photographic proof conventions. The portrait of Grand Duke Jean is presented in its final proportion and position, fully integrated within the surrounding ornamental framework. The balance between portrait, denomination, and watermark field reflects a completed design system, with no evidence of earlier scaling or spacing adjustments.

Typography and denomination placement are fully resolved, with "DIX FRANCS" harmonized within the guilloche structure and aligned precisely with the border architecture. The spatial organization demonstrates a stable hierarchy, optimized for both visual clarity and technical execution.

The signature area is present and integrated within the composition, reflecting a near-complete administrative configuration. At this stage, the photographic proof functions as a confirmation of the finalized layout rather than a tool for structural adjustment.

A handwritten annotation reading "6-1-67" is present in the lower margin of the mounted proof, executed in pen and positioned along the bottom edge. This annotation represents a later handling or internal reference mark and is physically distinct from the dated reference provided on the grading holder.

Within the broader Luxembourg collection, this proof represents the definitive obverse reference for the ten francs issue, capturing the completed design immediately before specimen preparation and issuance.

The note is preserved in Very Choice New condition, mounted on original cardstock, retaining strong photographic clarity and full integrity of the finalized layout.
