Description and research notes
Specimen of the ten francs note of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, dated 20 MARS 1967, representing the controlled production form of the finalized design prepared for reference, archival, and institutional distribution. This example reflects the completed layout previously confirmed through photographic proofs and now executed in full color and production format.
The note carries serial number A000000 in dual red placement, consistent with specimen designation. A red "SPECIMEN" overprint is applied horizontally across the central field of the note, clearly identifying its non-circulating status. Two cancellation punch holes are present across the central area, penetrating both the obverse and reverse.
The obverse features the portrait of Grand Duke Jean in its finalized proportion and position, integrated within a precisely structured guilloche framework. Typography and denomination placement are fully resolved, with "DIX FRANCS" harmonized within the ornamental design and aligned with the border architecture.
The reverse presents the completed architectural and landscape composition, integrating bridge structures and urban elements within a balanced and mechanically optimized layout. The spatial hierarchy and tonal depth reflect the finalized design prepared for mass production.
The printed date "20 MARS 1967" appears within the design, representing the formal issue date associated with the note. All elements correspond to the configuration adopted for circulation, with specimen-specific markings distinguishing this example from issued notes.
Within the broader Luxembourg collection, this specimen represents the transition from design validation to production control, capturing the note in its fully realized form prior to release into circulation.
The note is preserved in About Uncirculated condition, encapsulated by Paper Money Guaranty, retaining strong color, full detail, and complete visibility of all specimen markings.
