Issued 5 Pesos Fuertes note of Banco Domingo Garbino, produced from an earlier 1869 Banco Oxandaburu y Garbino note printed by the American Bank Note Company (Compania Americana de Billetes de Banco Nueva York) and later placed into circulation under Banco Domingo Garbino through the large diagonal red overprint "BANCO DOMINGO GARBINO." The overprint identifies the provisional reuse of the underlying Oxandaburu y Garbino stock under the successor banking identity. Pick S1803 records this issued overprint form of the 5 Pesos Fuertes denomination.
The base printing displays ABNC's early post-Civil-War engraving style: a vigilant dog guarding a strongbox at top center, allegorical female figures, and deep green lathe-work executed with the precision associated with American Bank Note Company export production. Fine ornamental borders, denomination counters, portrait engraving, and layered green security printing complete the design.
The underlying note itself reads EL BANCO OXANDABURU Y GARBINO, preserving the corrected GARBINO spelling directly in the 1869 printed design. This connects the note with the earlier 1867 Oxandaburu y Garvino issues from Gualeguaychu, where Domingo Luis Garbino's surname appeared on the printed notes as GARVINO. The surviving notes therefore document a clear printed progression from GARVINO in the 1867 partnership issue to GARBINO in the 1869 series.
The large diagonal red BANCO DOMINGO GARBINO overprint adds a second institutional identity directly across the original Oxandaburu y Garbino design. Both names remain physically present on the note, preserving the earlier partnership issue beneath and the later Banco Domingo Garbino designation above. PMG likewise identifies Pick S1803 as an overprint on Argentina Pick S1792.
Historically, these notes belong to Argentina's fragmented late-1860s and early-1870s monetary environment, when private and provincial banking institutions issued paper obligations alongside multiple metallic currency standards. The transition from the 1867 Pesos Bolivianos partnership notes to the 1869 Pesos Fuertes series documents a change in monetary denomination, while the subsequent BANCO DOMINGO GARBINO overprint records the later institutional reuse of the earlier printed currency.
Unsigned and unnumbered remainder notes of the underlying 5 Pesos Fuertes type, Pick S1792r, preserve the original Oxandaburu y Garbino form. The Banco Domingo Garbino issued form is identified by its completed signatures, numbering, and large red BANCO DOMINGO GARBINO overprint and is cataloged separately as Pick S1803. PMG records six graded examples of S1803 across all grades.

It documents within one note the progression from the 1867 GARVINO-spelling partnership issues, through the corrected GARBINO spelling of the 1869 Oxandaburu y Garbino series, to the later provisional Banco Domingo Garbino form.
