This 5 Pesos vale de hacienda was issued by the Republic of Honduras under the decree of 2 March 1863 and represents one of the earliest surviving treasury obligations of the Honduran republic. During the mid-nineteenth century Honduras lacked a formal banking system and frequently relied on treasury vales such as this to finance government operations and supplement the limited supply of metallic currency. Historical context: In the 1870s Honduras relied on treasury vales and billetes to finance operations before standardized banknote issues. These pieces circulated locally, were accepted for taxes, and were later exchanged for formal notes when funding allowed. Surviving signed and endorsed examples from 1873 are scarce, as most were redeemed and destroyed. This example retains clear date, city, and redemption annotations-an instructive artifact of early Central American public finance.

Paraguay 1907 - Banco de la República 5 Pesos with 1912 Dual-Side State and Treasury Revalidation Overprint (Pick Unlisted, Base Pick 156)

Uncirculated 1907 Banco de la República 5 Pesos note, printed by Waterlow & Sons, London, and later transformed by the 1912 Paraguayan emergency revalidation process. The note is based on the original 1907 Banco de la República 5 Pesos issue, cataloged as Pick 156, but this dual-side state and Treasury validation format appears to stand outside the standard catalog listing and is therefore best treated as Pick Unlisted, base Pick 156. The face carries the large oval state overprint “Emisión del Estado – Ley de 11 de Enero de 1912,” while the reverse bears the additional Treasury validation “Departamento de Hacienda – Junta Fiscalizadora – Cincuenta Centavos Oro Sellado – Conforme Decreto de 20 de Mayo 1912.” This dual-side structure places the note among the most historically informative forms of Paraguay’s 1912 provisional paper money.

Compared with the dual-side 5 Pesos revalidation variety, this Pick 127 example represents the first and standard level of official confirmation. The face overprint established the note as part of the January 1912 state emission. The rarer dual-side example added a second reverse validation from the Departamento de Hacienda and Junta Fiscalizadora under the decree of 20 May 1912. This makes the present note essential to the hierarchy: it shows the normal cataloged state-revalidated issue, while the dual-side note shows the additional Treasury-supervised fiscal layer.
