Discovery AR-prefix approval specimen of the 50 Zlotych banknote from the 1994 Polish issue, bearing serial number AR0000000. This piece documents a previously unrecorded physical approval-stage prefix for the 1994 50 Zlotych issue and establishes the AR prefix as discovery material within the production and approval record of the series.
The face preserves the complete final production design prepared for the National Bank of Poland. It shows the portrait of King Casimir III the Great at center-right, the crowned monogram and value panel at the upper right, the Polish eagle at left, the vertical denomination text "PIECDZIESIAT ZLOTYCH," the large vertical 50 value device in the left margin, and the full National Bank of Poland title. The note carries the Warsaw date of 25 March 1994 and the printed signatures of Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz, President of the National Bank of Poland, and Wieslaw Biernatowicz, Chief Treasurer.
The AR0000000 serial is the central diagnostic feature. The zero serial confirms its specimen function, while the AR prefix identifies the approval-stage discovery. This is not a routine catalog variety and not an ordinary issued-note prefix. It is production-stage evidence from the approval process behind the 1994 issue.
The right side carries vertical red specimen/control numbering, while the rest of the note remains fully printed in the final issued-style layout. This combination places the piece inside the printer approval and pre-release control process. It preserves the approved circulation design while retaining the handling features of an approval specimen, making it part of the creation record of the 1994 Polish banknote series.
The note was produced by Thomas De La Rue in London for the National Bank of Poland during the formal approval process for the new 1994 issue. The security design by Andrzej Heidrich, executed with high-grade engraved and lithographic elements, includes the multitone watermark portrait of King Casimir III the Great, layered guilloche fields, micro-patterned value panels, and the final visual structure later used for issued production.
As a fully printed approval-stage specimen with AR0000000 serial numbering, red vertical control numbering, final issued-style design, Thomas De La Rue production origin, and a newly documented discovery prefix, this piece is a museum-grade survivor from the creation of modern Polish paper money. Its significance is not only rarity, but documentation: it records, with images, a physical approval-stage artifact that standard catalogs did not document and gives the AR-prefix approval specimen its proper place as discovery-level production material.
